Verdict in the Carwash Trial is Positive

Dixon’s Car and Truck Rental is a diverse business with seven locations in Ontario, Canada. In addition to car and truck rentals, they offer shuttle service, auto detailing and, at their newest location, a full-service garage which also performs marine repairs.

“We acquired this location in Gananoque in October of 2017,” states location manager Joseph Smith. “The owner of our company decided to use this location to test the feasibility of adding a carwash—our first in the company. He and our operations manager did their research, decided that a fully touchless machine was what we wanted, talked to several companies and determined that the AquaJet fit our needs just right.”

The new AquaJet 300 was installed in June of 2018 and has performed well. “We went for the first three months without any problems,” Joseph notes. “A situation developed with Ford F-150s where a single streak was left running down the side. A tech came out, the service was great, and the issue was resolved.”

Joseph notes that the AquaJet is used in a variety of ways. “We’ve incorporated it into our maintenance package,” he elaborates. “If a customer comes in for service and spends more than $100, we give him the top-tier wash. We use it for all our rentals, and, with certain detailing packages, the customer has the option of hand or automatic wash. Plus, we’ve sold packages to the police and the municipality.”

The wash is equipped with a pay station and is fully accessible to the public. “The public side is in its infancy because we don’t have the appropriate signage up, but I would estimate we’re doing about $4,000 in a good month,” Joseph states.

Versatile, efficient and a revenue generator, it appears that the carwash trial may be a success.
